Fish Tank Monitor
Applications
Using the LDSBus, developers and enthusiasts can provide monitoring and automation to a wide range of applications. In this example, we use the LDSBus to monitor some key parameters of the water in the fish tank. This helps to ensure that the water is at the optimal temperature for the fish and that the pH and Dissolved Oxygen are at safe levels. The LDSBus is connected to the host computer via the LDSBus USB Adapter. The host computer can be a Windows PC, Linux box, or Raspberry Pi. You can program your own application in Python or C# language using our Software Development Kit (SDK).
Features
The system shown uses several BRTSys sensors to monitor important fluid parameters in the water.
With the system shown, you can monitor the following parameters:
- Water temperature via Thermocouple sensor adapter
- pH level via the pH sensor adapter
- Dissolved Oxygen level via the DO sensor adapter
And you can also control devices:
- Control an air pump to maintain oxygen levels (Relay actuator)
Create your own application using our SDK to meet the needs of your specific application
- Use our SDK in your application, with a wide range of examples provided to help you get started
- Check which sensors and actuators are present on your bus
- Monitor the sensors to check the pH, Dissolved Oxygen and Water Temperature
- Carry out any processing of the data
- Display the data on your screen in real time and log the data for viewing at a later time
- If the Dissolved Oxygen levels are too low, turn on the air pump via the 2CH Relay/2CH Relay+iSENSE to restore the levels and turn off when the Dissolved Oxygen reaches the optimal level
- Compare the sensor readings against limits and display a warning message if they go beyond these limits
Advantages
- Develop your own Application
Use our Software Development Kits (SDK) in Python or C# to develop your application. We have a wide range of examples included in the SDK showing you how to use the different sensors and actuators and providing a starting point for your own code.
- Monitor the environment to ensure that it is optimal for your fish
Ensure optimal water Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen and pH levels to keep the fish safe and happy. Avoid the need to do manual samples at regular intervals. You can develop code to display the data in real time as well as logging it for long-term monitoring.
- Maintain a healthy environment for your fish
Program automatic responses to activate devices to maintain the conditions even when you are not there. For example, the LDSBus Relay can activate the air pump when required without it running all of the time.
- Integrated system
All sensors and actuators use the same connection and protocol, allowing them to work together on the same bus. Avoid the need to have separate monitoring systems for different parameters which are connected separately. Develop just one piece of software to monitor and control all your LDSbus devices.
- Monitor the tank remotely
The host computer can also be some distance from the fish tank, as the LDSBus can run for distances up to 200m using convenient CAT5e/6 cabling with RJ45 connectors.
- Extend your system
You can easily extend the system using additional Quad T-Junctions. Monitor other parameters such as water quality (via Oxygen Reduction Potential and Electrical Conductivity sensors) and Ambient Light levels (via 4in1 sensor). Control other devices such as heaters and lights via LDSBus Relay and LDSBus Dimmer actuators.

Back To TopOffice Air Quality
In many areas such as offices, and conference rooms, there can be a large number of people in an enclosed space and it is important to ensure the environment is safe and comfortable. The LDSBus provides an ideal solution for monitoring various parameters at different points around the room and displaying the data to users as well as to administrative or maintenance staff.
Features
In this example, we use 4in1 sensors, Air Quality Sensors, and CO2 Sensors positioned around the room to monitor the environment. We can display the data on a convenient touch screen near the door and we can also activate ventilation systems to keep the air quality at an optimal level.
The system allows you to monitor parameters such as:
- Air Quality via the AQS (Air Quality Sensor) adapter
- Temperature via the 4in1 Sensor and CO2 Sensor
- Humidity via the 4in1 Sensor and CO2 Sensor
- Ambient Light via the 4in1 Sensor and CO2 Sensor
- Motion Sensing via 4in1 Sensor
- Carbon Dioxide via the CO2 sensor
It provides manual or automatic control of devices too such as:
- Control Ventilation fans to maintain air quality based on AQS and CO2 measurements (Relay actuator)
- Control Lights depending on the motion sensor and light level sensors (Relay actuator or Dimmer actuator)
Advantages
- Maintain a comfortable environment
When the room is in use, unbeknown to the occupants, the air quality and CO2 levels may be reaching levels that make them uncomfortable. The LDSBus with IDM2040 display ensures that they can check the air quality as well as creating automatic responses to help to maintain it automatically.
- User Friendly Interface
The graphical interface with touch control ensures that users can understand and interact with the system. Use the Software Development Kit to develop your user interface to suit the needs of the conference or meeting room.
- Compatibility and Flexibility
The system allows a variety of parameters to be monitored at different places in the room whilst keeping cabling and installation simple as all units connect to the same bus. Extend the system in the future by adding more Quad T-Junctions with additional or different sensors.
- Integrated
Many systems consist of independent sensors which are not compatible with each other. With LDSBus you can view all data together on one panel, and you can control output devices based on these without worrying about bridging different systems together.
